Review Of The Fender American Standard Stratocaster

By Keung Ng

The Fender American Standard Stratocaster is Fender's icon - and it will always be. Over the past fifty years, there have been a few delicate upgrades by Fender to improve the Strat's tone, playability and appearance. For instance, a deeper neck tint and glossy neck front, a narrowed string spacing, a bent steel Fender saddles, etc.

Sound: It is that classic rock sound that is iconic of a Strat. It is so recognizable you cannot mistaken it. Perhaps this is the reason why so many working musicians and amateur players have used the Strat.

Neck Pickup: The sound is classic, bright and penetrating, no matter what you play it through. This sound has become the standard that the rest of the musical industry has tried to immitate.

Bridge Pickup: It is the iconic rock sound that is most recognizable. It is exactly what is heard in almost all kinds of american rock music. You will see that nothing sounds exactly like the Strat.

Action, Fit and Finish: With this Strat everything is really adjusted and set up perfectly. You may not need to alter any settings at all. The pickups are fine with little noise. If you prefer, you can put in a DiMarzio Tone Zone Humbucker to get a fatter bridge pickup. The finish is perfect, no chips or flaws at all. This Strat is worth every penny.

Pros: * The clean, classic tone is definitely the number one reason why you buy the Strat for; * The crunchy tone is just awesome; * Great feel and playability.

Cons: The pickup routing scheme is a bit too large (perhaps they might have changed the new model to a smaller one by now); * With hight gain it is not beefy enough; * There are some finish flaws. - 42265
