Electric Guitar Lessons for One and All

By Mike Bordon

For an aspiring musician, the online electric guitar lessons are an ideal form of training irrespective of whether he belongs to the amateur, intermediate or advanced stages. These lessons instruct the learner in all aspects related with the playing of the instrument through videos and ebooks and the choice of the medium depends solely on the personal preferences of the learner.

First things first, before you expect to strum that electric guitar, make sure you know all the parts of your guitar. There are altogether eleven parts beginning with the headstock and continuing onwards to include the tuners (also known as turning pegs), the nut, the frets, the neck of the guitar, the body, the pickups, the switch of the pickup, the bridge, tremolo (also known as Whammy Bar) and finally the control knobs.

Now that you are familiar with the various parts of a guitar, you should learn how to get into the position with it. There are two ways you can do it - the sitting positions comprising of the classical and casual styles of holding the guitar and the standing position where one places the strap over one's shoulder and adjust the strap so that the guitar is positioned mid-body. Usually the right hand is rested over the bridge of the guitar and the left hand is used to support the neck.

Electric guitar lessons entail extensive use of hands in terms of wrist and fingers and an important recommendation here is to keep one's hands relaxed and maintain cut and trimmed finger nails. The former is essential for preventing strain or injury and the latter is meant for convenience during playing. Yet another issue which crops up during the initial stages is the pain in one's fingers but this should be taken in stride as it is an inevitable aspect which dissipates as the lessons progress.

Like in studies the learning process during the electric guitar lessons is more effective when a lengthy and difficult chapter is broken down into smaller tasks so that each portion is tackled and perfected individually. This not only facilitates understanding and long term retention but makes the long and arduous task of mastering the A and D chords seem simple and easy.

When the basics are mastered, the player is ready to move on to the next step which entails learning to tune his guitar, change the strings as also check the intonation. All this will come with practice and soon one will gain sufficient expertise so as to discuss all about its set up with the attendant of the local music store with confidence. The player can then select different new parts for his instrument so as to improve the sound quality.

In order to reach the higher levels of proficiency in playing the electric guitar, practice, patience and the right guidance are essential requisites. If you take time out to master the skills at each level, it is just a matter of time before you begin to produce meaningful tunes out of your guitar.
